Whats New - Powder Coating
Reading Truck Body now offers a powder coating as an optional top coat finish.
What is Powder Coating?
Its a proven process being applied for the first time to service bodies. High voltage state of the art spray equipment adheres fine polyester particles to every surface. The end result is a smooth and durable white finish that exhibits high degrees of resistance to salt spray corrosion, humidity, and scratching.
The Powder Coating Process
Following the acrylic e-coat 12-stage process, the powder coating process includes:
- A dry, polyester plastic powder is applied with high voltage state of the art spray equipment. High voltage charges help the powder adhere to all surfaces.
- After application of powder, body is moved via an overhead conveyor to an automated bake oven where the powder melts and is fused to the primer
- Baking cycle is computer monitored for accuracy of baking time and temperature
Benefits of Powder Coating
- Able to protect against high levels of corrosion such as salt, chemicals, humidity, scratching, and impact, far surpassing conventional paint top coats
- Tolerant of UV exposure
- Tremendous environmental advantages due to solvent-free coating process and collection and recycling of powder
- Outstanding adhesion characteristics
- Gleaming white coat in interior compartments reduces need for auxiliary lighting
- Very hard, chip-resistant surface
